LEYTONSTONE'S' POOL ACE TO POKER ACE JACKIE MEECHAM SCORES A £32,000 WIN WITH LADBROKES
Jackie Meecham of Leytonstone won the second ever
Ladbrokes European Ladies Championship
and prizes worth £32,000 into the bargain this Bank Holiday weekend. Jackie a
Home Office Manager already a UK Champion pool player (once achieving a UK number 1 ranking) has only been playing poker for two and a half years.
Her biggest win before the
ELC
was £700, which was at her local card room Equal Chance. As part of her prize Jackie will now play in Poker Million VI Europes most
prestigious, biggest and richest poker tournament for a chance to win a staggering $1,000,000 The seat for the tournament (one of seventy two) is worth a staggering
£14,000.
Jackie qualified to play in the
ELC
tournament via a $3 online tournament at
Ladbrokespoker.com
to play and over the weekend beat 47 other women from all over Europe
including world women's poker number two Liz Lieu and respected poker player Lucy Rocash to take home first prize.
The
ELC
tournament will be broadcast as a prelude to The
Ladbrokes Poker Million VI
on Sky Sports Two in July and August and will shows Jackie blasting her competition
into oblivion. Jackie will return to defend her
ELC title next year.
Jackie Meecham from Leytonstone commented: "I watched poker on TV for a few months before I started to play and decided that this was a game that I could do well at. I
packed my bags soon after and headed to Las Vegas for a holiday with the express intention of leaving Las Vegas, knowing how to play poker well."
"I think I can safely say that this has been achieved! I can't wait to participate in the
Poker Million VI,
apart from the experience the amount of money to be won is
astounding. If you get to the semi final you are guaranteed at least £6,000 and to get into the semi finals means £10,000. It is an opportunity of a lifetime, that I am
going to grasp with both hands."
Jackie will purchase a new car with her winnings. Other players on the final table included second place Angelina from Sweden who was way out in front at the start of
the Heads-up, but Jackie just would not give in and eventually won the day. Girl about town Leilani also dropped in for the weekend event although on this occasion she
did not make it to the final table.
Ladbrokespoker.com
is celebrating its fifth birthday this month with a
festival of poker
and will run a number of tournaments with prizes to visit Las Vegas and play in
the world series through to participating in the
Poker Million VI.
Samantha Alleyne PR Manager
Ladbrokes
commented: "This is truly a great event, it gives women a chance to experience a tournament where they are one of many and not a
few as is often the case in live poker. It's a really friendly environment to introduce players who usually only play online or have limited live experience and yet the
structure, format and prizes continue to attract the crème de la creme of the poker circuit Lucy Rokash and Liz Lieu to mention just two of the names that also signed up
for the tournament and are renowned for beating men at their own game."
