Number Wan in the DTD Deepstack – Andrew takes home £52,500!

£15 Freezeout regular beats a 433 strong field to win the first SUPERSIZED Deepstack Event at Dusk Till Dawn.

This weekend Dusk Till Dawn hosted the first ever £500 Deepstack, upgrading from the monthly £300 Deepstack tournament with a new and improved structure for the poker players to go alongside a Guaranteed Prize Pool of £150,000.

Day 1a kicked off on Friday, with an all-star cast taking to the felt. Despite a number of other big tournaments across the UK clashing with the £500 Deepstack, players such as Rupinder Bedi, John Eames and most notably Luke Schwartz were in attendance. None of these players were able to make the cut to get into Day 2, but re-entry was available to take another stab at it on Day 1b.

Throughout Day 1a we saw an incredible 149 entrants, and with the Guarantee needing 300 players and Day 1b always proving the more popular of day 1’s, it wasn’t a question of if the Guarantee would be reached, but by how much would the Guarantee be passed by. At the end of Day 1a the chip lead belonged the Phillip Campbell, with Andrew Wan not too far behind as 47 players progressed to Day 2.

There was plenty of excitement around the club on Day 1b, with all players intrigued to see just how big the prize pool was going to get. Plenty of pros were yet again in attendance, hoping to be crowned the first ever 500 Deepstack winner. Soon enough the total number of entrants was announced – an incredible 284 players on Day 1b, meaning the field had grown to 433, giving us a mouth-watering prize pool of £216,500, smashing the £200k mark.

As DTD drew to the end of Day 1b re-entry really had paid off for Rupinder Bedi, meaning he went into Day 2 with the overall chip lead of 341,000, almost 50k more than second position. 78 players fought their way through on Day 1b, meaning we would rejoin Day 2 with 125 players, of which 45 would make the money.

Players seemed to be flying out right left and centre on the second and Final day at Dusk Till Dawn. The eventual bubble boy was Samir Khan, eliminated in 46th place. Still amongst the field was Andrew Wan, having freerolled his way to a seat by playing £15 Freezeout’s in Dusk Till Dawn’s “Final Table Challenge” he was over the moon with his guaranteed minimum cash of £750 despite having an above average stack at this point, now hoping to turn a fairy tale into reality for himself.

The field got narrowed down further and further until we were at the final table, with Rupinder Bedi eventually finishing in 14th position, a strong performance for £1,895. Incredibly the Final Table had 6 regulars on it, as well as Pete Linton who was hoping to be the first player ever to make back to back victories in the Deepstack having done a deal in the 300 Deepstack in December.

With 8 remaining players DTD moved over to the feature table, where they hosted live video streaming with a 20 minute delay for everyone at home to tune into, for what was a nail biting rollercoaster ride. Linton put in an incredible performance, but was unfortunate to finish 4th. He got it in with 55 against Waheed Asharaf (better known as Wadie)’s KJ, spiking the King on the turn, meaning Linton won £15,160.

We now had 3 regulars left in the names of Wadie who was the first ever Monte Carlo winner at Dusk Till Dawn, Frank Flanagan and still Andrew Wan living the dream. Not once had I seen him on Day 2 without a smile on his face, whenever there was an all in on a table he would always insist on wishing both players the best of luck. Wan at the Final Table had been playing a push or fold game, admitting that “these guys are better than me” and didn’t want to be constantly outplayed.

Flanagan doubled through Wadie with KJ against Wadie’s K9 on a K-Q-4 board. This left him short and found himself all in again soon enough with A2 against Wan’s A5. With the board running out 3-10-6-4-K the 5 played, eliminating Wadie in 3rd place for £21,603.

As soon as it went Heads Up both players agreed to split it for £45,000 a piece, with an additional £7,500 going to the winner. Andrew Wan let it be known that he was itching for the title, to be crowned the King of Dusk Till Dawn.

Flanagan got it in with Q2, only to be called by the QJ of Wan. A 2 on the turn doubled up Flanagan, meaning they were now both playing fairly equal stacks. Flanagan then shoved with J9 and Wan called with the hand of the day – Q2. The board came 6-5-4-3-10 giving Wan the straight, meaning Andrew freerolled his way to an incredible win worth £52,500.

Wan is clearly over the moon, who early on said he believed it was already written for him. He has announced that he will continue to stick to £15 games as he feels his standard of play isn’t good enough, and has assured Rob Yong that he definitely will not be playing a VIP cash game with him any time soon.

Due to the success of this months event DTD will be holding another £500 Deepstack the first weekend in February. Online Satellites are running now and DTD have added MEGA SATS Sunday’s with 10 seats guaranteed every week.
