"Rastafish" wins Monte Carlo Main Event for £89,213!

Colburn Tomlin overcame a field of 288 players to win the Monte Carlo and poker phenom Jake Cody finished in 3rd place.

The 5th Monte Carlo Event ran from Friday 16th December - Monday 19th December, and won't be forgotten about in a hurry around the Dusk Till Dawn Poker club.

With two Day 1’s, DTD Poker had 117 + 171 totalling 288 players which generated a massive prize pool of £288,000, smashing the £250,000 Guarantee. There was a long list of notable players including all of the past Monte Carlo winners, as well as world renowned pros such as Neil Channing, Toby Lewis. James Dempsey ( flew in from his 5 Diamonds WPT win in Las Vegas ) and Jake Cody.

Going into Day 2 Alex Goulder was one of the chip leaders, hoping to be the first ever player to make back to back Monte Carlo victories after taking it down in July 2011 for just over £77,000. Jake Cody, despite being only a little above starting stack at the start of Day 2, made a supersonic start on the feature table rushing up from 40,000 to about 250,000 in the first couple of levels of the day.

The tournament paid 27 spots, and it was Anthony Nicholls who had the disappointment of being the bubble boy finishing in 28th. He pushed from the button for 10 big blinds with A3, and was called by the AK of Jake Cody which was able to hold.

On the 3rd and final day at Monte Carlo, just 16 players remained. Alex Goulder was still in the running to make it back to back wins, with William Dorey and Marc Foggin going through as chipleaders. Soon enough it was down to the final 8 who moved to DTD Poker's all new feature table which was streamed live online for the entirety of Day 3. Dorey at this stage was the chip leader with Goulder on less than 10 big blinds, with plenty of work to do.

Alex Goulder was unable to do the repeat, but managed to put in a great performance finishing 4th for £21,960. He made a move on Tomlin with J2, but Colburn Tomlin called the shove with AQ, Queen on the flop ended it for Alex.

Jake Cody was the next player to go. 3 handed Skipper shoved preflop with QQ, Cody called for with AQ and was unable to find the Ace leaving him crippled with just 3 BB and went out on the very next hand. Another superb performance from Cody, meaning he cashed for £31,293 but it just wasn’t to be for the Triple Crown winner.

And then there were two, Paul Skipper and a certain "Rastafish", with Skipper holding a 2-1 chip lead. Tomlin is a regular at Dusk Till Dawn meaning the rail was heaving with Rastafish fans, all hoping that he could maintain the unbroken record of four local winners. It seemed like it was going to end early, Skipper 3 bet shoving with KK and Tomlin calling with A2, with Tomlin the shorter stack at risk. The flop however came 2-2-8, and no King meant Tomlin was now the big stack.

Soon enough it was Skipper’s tournament that was at risk, 3 bet shoving with KJ and Tomlin with a commanding chip lead finding a call with 89s. An 8 on the flop put Tomlin ahead, King on the turn meant Skipper regained the lead but 9 on the river sent the rail into raptures, meaning Tomlin had won the Monte Carlo outright with no deals for a massive payday of £89,212
