Hiding Poker Tells
The best way to avoid giving yourself away to your opponents is to be as passive as possible at the table (live or online) and to standardise your play.By passive here I mean do not engage is unnecessary action. Be on your best behaviour. Keep chat to a minimum; don’t arouse suspicion by using extroverted gestures. Players who like to be the centre of attention are likely to become targets for the rest of table. No one likes a show-off.
By standardising your play I mean do everything in your game at the same pace and in the same way. Spend the same amount of time on decisions, use the same bet amounts and handle your chips in the same way. In short, act as regimented as possible and you will not give opponents the chance to read into slight changes in your demeanour because there won’t be any. Act like a robot!
If someone asks you a question during a hand, they are looking for any piece of information about your hand. Lines like “have you got an ace?” or “are you bluffing?” are crafty tactics used to try and determine how strong you are. The best course of action is to keep your mouth shut, especially if you are worried you give your hand away in your voice or your words.
Those looking at Scratch Cards Online should note that there are obvious ways to hide your tells. Sunglasses, caps and hoodies will cover up any physical tells so if you have to cover up, then do it. You might look like an idiot but at least you won’t be a poor idiot.
If you are having real difficulty hiding your tells in live poker, then simply stick to online.
