Beginner No-Limit Hold'em Books

If you are new to poker and want to do some reading on the subject then you will know that there are thousands of poker books out there. Some are good and some are of absolutely no use to you. Below is a list of books that we would recommend to new or beginner poker players.

Please note that we would not recommend these books to advanced players as they are too basic, but to start your poker reading we believe that these will give you a good grounding in the game and will definately help you avoid some if not most silly mistakes.

Play Poker Like the Pros by Phil Hellmuth

This books is very basic and Phil Hellmuth definately doesn't follow any advice in this book! However, for a beginning player this book will make you too tight a player, but at least it won't make you lose ridiculous amounts of money. Hellmuth only really discusses player pocket pairs and AK - AJ. For an intemediate player or an advanced player I would say, "stay away" but if you are new to the game, read this as an early book in your reading.

Harrington on Holdem Vol 1,2 & 3

Harrington's tournament series are excellent reading. Harrington teaches you and then tests you with working examples throughout the book. A great way to learn and very easy to understand. You can't go wrong with this series of books.

Harrington on Hold'em Vol. 1 by Dan Harrington £15.95 at High Stakes - This book concentrates on the early and mid stages of a no limit hold'em tournament and describes techniques used by top players.

Harrington on Hold'em Vol. 3 by Dan Harrington £15.95 at High Stakes - Dan gives you problems to test how well you grasped the principles of the first two volumes. In addition, many of the problems focus on the key area that causes difficulties for so many aspiring players: how to play after the flop.

Harrington on Cash Games Vol 1 & 2

One of the first books aimed directly at cash games and from Dan Harrington himself - bonus!
