Year Published: 2006
Extent: 304pp

PHIL GORDON'S LITTLE BLUE BOOK, Phil Gordon - co-host of Celebrity Poker Showdown and a world-class player and teacher - shared the strategies, tips, and expertise he's gleaned during his phenomenally successful career. Now, he shows players how to apply those theories to actual hands in order to make smart, confident decisions with every move.

Gordon walks readers through hands that he's encountered in six different scenarios, from an online cash game to a World Series of Poker match, revealing not only what plays he made, but also why he made them.

He relates what goes through a pro's mind in every situation, whether it's a timely bluff or a questionable call, and helps players calculate their own best moves in the most pressure-fuelled, lightning-paced situations. In analyzing specific hands, Gordon also imparts important lessons in key poker skills such as calculating odds, shorthanded play, and discovering tells. And he discusses memorable plays - the good and the oh-so-bad - from Celebrity Poker Showdown, explaining why players made certain moves and, in many cases, what they should have done differently.

The Smart Money by Michael Konik

Author: Michael Konik
ISBN: 9781843440383
Year Published: 2007

When journalist Michael Konik landed an interview with Rick "Big Daddy" Matthews, the largest bet he'd placed on a sporting event was $200. Konik, an expert blackjack and poker player, was no stranger to Vegas. But Matthews was in a different league: the man was rumoured to be the world's smartest sports bettor, the mastermind behind "the Brain Trust," a shadowy group of gamblers known for their expertise in beating the odds set by the big Vegas casinos. Konik had heard the word on the street - that Matthews was a snake, a conniver who would do anything to gain an edge. But he was also brilliant, cunning, and charming. And when he asked Konik if he'd like to "make a little money" during the football season, the writer found himself seduced...

Konik takes readers behind the most successful sports betting operation in America, bypassing the myths and the rumours to reveal how they got rich by beating the Vegas odds and, ultimately, the multimillion-dollar offshore betting circuit. He details the excesses and the betrayals, the horse-trading and the paranoia, that are the perks and perils of a lifestyle in which staking inordinate sums of money on the outcome of a single event - sometimes as much as $1 million on a football game - is a normal part of doing business.

Rivered believe that The Smart Money by Michael Konik is definately Konik's best book so far. Well written, this book is an easy read that keeps you turning pages. There are a couple of points in the book where it gets a bit repetitive when Konik is continually describing the bets he has to place, but I guess that's what Sports Betting for a living is - placing lots of bets. A fantastic read you definately won't be dissapointed with this book.

The biggest Poker game in the World!

Andy Beal was back in Las Vegas to take a shot at "The Corporation." The Corporation is a group of professional players that group their funds together to play heads-up matches against the mathematical genius and financial giant Andy Beal. You can read about their last adventure in The Professor, the Banker and the Suicide King. This book is awesome, it's a real page turner and some of the stories are absolutely facinating.

This was a MASSIVE GAME!! We are talking $50,000/$100,000 limit hold'em - so the blinds are $25,000/$50,000!!!!

Full details on this massive game of poker can be found here.
