PKR Beta Testing Review

PKR BONUS CODE is : rivered this entitles you to 8% rakeback.

Described by Poker Player Magazine as "the future of online poker" rivered thought that we had better play on the PKR software ourselves to see what all the fuss was about.

The PKR website claims that their softwares, "richly rendered 3D environments and emphasis on human interaction, puts the soul into online poker. But it's not just about graphics and interaction as PKR also offers all the poker features that you'll find anywhere else plus a few more."

There is no doubt that PKR does look good once the software has loaded, it's no longer a 2D view of a poker table with names in boxes, it is now a poker table in 3D which can be viewed from several different angles and also a series of 3D characters that can be customised within certain boundaries. You can also control your character as he/she sits in the game. You can look around the table at individual players by moving your mouse around the table or you can look at people's chip stacks by hovering your mouse over the players chip stacks. You also get the options to do chip tricks or say specific words or make your character perform specific actions. These can be deemed as tells or as fake tells.

In theory all of this sounds very cute. However, Rivered found that during the beta period (and it was only a beta period) that tables were slow to load, characters were slow to load and if everyone did an action or a chip trick at the same time the game slowed down. However, most alarmingly only around 40-60 hands an hour were being played out due to the speed of the game.

Looks wise the PKR client is great, but is all of this necessary? All of the chip tricks, speech and actions all look good, but do they really serve a purpose? Rivered don't think they do, we think it's just one big gimmick to get non poker players to play poker for real money. If you are a serious poker player and you are looking to make money then surely you want to play on a poker client that allows you to play a much larger number of hands per hour, in the region of 100-120 an hour instead of 40-60. However, there a few really nice features within the PKR client. You can play your hands blind, as you have to look at your cards by clicking a button. You also have the option of showing your cards or just one of them if you win or lose the pot, which is a nice touch. However, overall the poker action seems more like a playstation 2 game rather than a real money poker client.

If you want to have a bit of fun and play something that not only looks good but has an arcade feel to it them PKR is probably the poker client for you. However, if you are a serious poker player and your aim is to make as much money as possible then rivered believe that you would probably want to play on a "normal" poker client where the speed is greater and you get more hands per hour.

However, the official release of PKR has not arrived yet so maybe the speed issue will be fixed once the official release occurs - fingers crossed!

THE ULTIMATE WORLD SERIES EXPERIENCE

PKR is giving players a shot at the ultimate WSOP* experience.

A minimum of five winners are going to scoop World Series Experience Packages worth $12.5K each (for a total prize pool of $62.5K). PKR.com is giving each package winner $10K in tournament fees to spend any way they want in their assault on the 2007 World Series of Poker*. That means winners can take a shot at the Main Event, or enter any number of specialist events that suit their playing style.

"This promotion is all about giving players a choice and letting them experience the World Series the way they always dreamed of.", said PKR Poker Room Manager Neil Wright. Adding, "For some players the focus is entirely on the $12m main event and that's fine. But a lot of other players would rather concentrate on playing for bracelets in events where they specialise - like Omaha, heads up, short handed and so on. We wanted to give these players a chance to customise their own World Series and now they've got it."

Players can also choose from a variety of ways into the World Series Experience Grand Final on PKR. High rollers can buy into the Grand Final directly for $250 while cagier players may prefer to qualify through a number of satellites being offered (see illustration). In fact PKR.com is giving players an opportunity to get into its World Series Experience Grand Final for free - either through playing special Premium Freeroll satellite qualifiers or by accruing PKR Points during the promotion period.
